By the end of this page, Claude can see your wells. Ask it which wells changed this week, pull a rod string, or compare two simulations, and it answers from your own PetroBench data with the permissions you already have.
Before you start
You need a PetroBench login and a Claude plan that allows custom connectors. That's Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. The server URL is https://app.petrobench.com/mcp. When Claude asks you to sign in, use your PetroBench account. If your company uses SSO, that applies here too.
Add the connector
On a Pro or Max plan, open Customize, then Connectors. Select the plus button, then Add custom connector. Paste the server URL and select Add. Claude opens a browser tab for sign-in. Approve the access it asks for, and the connector shows as connected.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it first. Open Organization settings, then Connectors. Select Add, then Custom, then Web. Paste the server URL and select Add. Each member then opens Customize, then Connectors, finds PetroBench and selects Connect.
The Connected apps page in PetroBench Settings shows the same steps under Claude, with the URL ready to copy.
Turn it on in a conversation
In a new conversation, select the plus button, then Connectors, and turn PetroBench on. The PetroBench tools appear in the tool list. Ask something you'd otherwise open the app for:
- Which of my wells have a simulation that ran in the last week?
- Pull the rod string on the well with the highest side load and summarize the taper.
- Compare the last two simulations on this well and tell me what changed.
Claude picks the tools and chains them itself. A question that names the well and the metric gets a better answer than a vague one.
What to check
Three signs the connection works. The tool list in Claude shows PetroBench tools. A question about a specific well returns your data. And the audit log in the admin panel shows the calls under your name.
If tools are missing, your PetroBench role doesn't include them; the tool list matches your permissions. If sign-in loops, remove the connector and add it again, and finish the sign-in in the same browser session.
The authorization you granted is listed under Connected apps in your PetroBench settings. Revoking it there cuts Claude off immediately.
For IT
Claude authenticates with your PetroBench login over OAuth, so nothing is pasted into a config file and SSO, SCIM and MFA apply the same way they do in the browser. Tools are scoped by role, organization isolation holds below the tool layer, and every call is in the audit log. To revoke access, remove the connector in Claude or deactivate the user in PetroBench.
For an agent that runs on a schedule or is shared by a team, create a service token under Settings, then API tokens. A service token is owned by a division, survives staff changes, and carries only the abilities you grant it, with an expiry and an IP allowlist.
The trust center at docs.petrobench.com/trust has the rest.
