Diagnose a Gearbox Overload
Gearbox alarms can come from the design, from a change in the well, or from both. The inputs usually sit in three different places.
PERM-4821 shuts down on gearbox overload alarms. What is the root cause?
- get-well
- validate-well-data
- get-well-production
- execute-simulation
Peak torque is at 94% of the gearbox rating at 5.0 SPM. The last fluid shot puts pump fillage at 71%, and the card shows fluid pound on the downstroke. Slowing to 4.0 SPM drops gearbox load to 78% and lifts fillage to 88%, for about 2 bopd less oil.
| Base | Case B | |
|---|---|---|
| Stroke rate | 5.0 SPM | 4.0 SPM |
| Gearbox load | 94% | 78% |
| Pump fillage | 71% | 88% |
| Max rod stress | 82% | 76% |
| Oil rate | 157 bopd | 155 bopd |

Read the Result
Ask the agent to save the case as a draft so the design review happens in PetroBench.
- 1
get-wellReads well identity, status and performance inputs.
- 2
validate-well-dataScores gearbox load, structure load, efficiency and data gaps.
- 3
get-well-productionReads the latest fluid shot and the production trend.
- 4
execute-simulationTests a follow-up case when you ask for one.
